Michael Gondry
Gondry has also created numerous television commercials. He pioneered the "bullet time" techniques used in The Matrix, notably in his "Like A Rolling Stone" video for the Rolling Stones and a 1998 commercial for Smirnoff vodka, as well as directing a trio of inventive holiday-themed commercials for GAP.
He has also completed three feature films, Human Nature, the Oscar-winning Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind, and the recently completed The Science of Sleep, which was premiered at the Sundance Festival in February 2006.

Finished Versions of my Storyboard
The Online Me
THE ONLINE ME
I use the Internet for a lot of different things from emailing to blogging to games. It seems that you have to register to do anything on the Internet now. At first it took me a long time to actually get a username for my main use, Hotmail.com. I probably spent about 2 hours trying to come up with one and then a memory just clicked in my ‘dogactor87’. This is because when I was younger I used to run around the house on all fours and growl when I was angry so my mum’s biker friends named me, dogactor. Its ‘dogactor87’ because I thought it sounded more right for an email, at the time. When ever I type it I always remember the guys and taking me out on their bikes. So if you typed ‘dogactor87’ into any search engine such as Yahoo.com you will find a lot of pages! Strangely one is a bob the builder club that my mate signed my address up to, still makes me giggle.
There are 6 websites that I use the most, which are listed below: -
www.hotmail.com
www.yahoo.com
www.blogger.com
www.bebo.com
www.ebay.co.uk
www.humcc.co.uk
This is a pretty obvious reason for using this site, its home of my main email address. I particularly like hotmail because it’s easy to use although it does seem to send and receive some files differently so it’s hard to open them. I also use MSN Messenger, which is part of hotmail. Every time I go on the Internet I log on to MSN just so I can keep in touch with my friends. I went to a boarding school in Llandudno and a lot of my friends came from around the world, such as my best friend, Jenny who’s from Barbados! Without it I probably would have lost touch with her but because of MSN I know that’s she’s happy and in University in Canada and complaining it’s cold!
Everyone I meet says oh no don’t use yahoo use google but I grew up using yahoo so it’s just hard to swap. I think everyone has one search engine website they always use, mines just yahoo! I do also use it for emails and games especially Pool! I love playing with all the people you find on there and meeting new people. I’ve never met anyone on there like the ones you hear on the news.etc. Its just a bit of fun although I usually just end up on the same points I was on originally as I usually win one then lose one! Oh well, its all fun.
I didnt actually know that blogger.com actually existed until I came to Huddersfield university and I’m glad that we actually got told about it because I strangely enjoy writing on my blog and adding photos and videos.
I haven’t actually set up a separate blog about myself as I’ve actually not had time but updating it with information, research, videos and photos is fun enough anyway. I have especially found the ability for people to leave comments on my blog and contact me. It’s very helpful because I have actually had people sending me messages with suggestions!
Blogger does have the feature of mobile blogging, which I’d love to try but I just can’t afford it at the moment. I do think it’s an excellent idea because I personally have a terrible memory and by the time I got home I would have forgotten about what I was going to say in the blog plus it would be an easier way of getting photos off my phone!
Bebo has to be one of my favourite websites as I use it for everything! From storing my photos to meeting new people! I actually met Andy through bebo and he is now a good mate of mine! I do actually have a blog on there too but I don’t actually update it much. It’s just a fun site, which actually feels like a homepage for myself. It has quizzes, polls, photos, blogs and information about me. I think my biggest and most helpful use for bebo is the photos option. I have a total of 986 and I’m uploading more everyday!
You can buy practically anything on eBay and at great prices! I love going on eBay whether buying or selling, it’s easy and fun and you'll never know what you’ll find especially as there are over 100 million members worldwide and over 25 million items for sale everyday!
I mainly use it for buying things, especially motorbike parts/accessories, CDs, DVDs and books. I find eBay very addictive, which isn’t always a good thing as I have had some problems with some sellers before.
This is the website for the Huddersfield University Motorcycle Club (HUMCC). I am a member of this club and also help to update the website and take photos for it. It’s used to let people know who we are, where we are and what we do and have done. People can contact us through the site and send us videos, photos and information. It lets people get closer to us and for us to get closer to them. I’m currently trying to work out how to get videos to work off the site as I’m having problems with it as the site was originally set up with a program and not html so I cant do it the normal way I would of. I’ve tried using flash to upload them onto the site but just get green boxes! The point of the videos is to make people laugh, see what its like with us and for current and past members to see all the fun times we had.
The Internet is one of the greatest technologies and without it I would never have anything that I have spoken about in this. I grew up with the Internet and to lose it would leave a gap, for this century the Internet is necessary.

Bees, Bees and more Bees!
We have been animating Bees, I've uploaded what we've done so far below. Im not too happy with how all the Bees turn at about the same time but i dont know After Effects well enough yet to change that.
Well enjoy and let me know what you think.
Eboy - Sprite
Too early today but oh well here goes :)
We have been working on our Sprites again and we got told about an original sprite type website called Eboy. www.eboy.com
It was made before Habbo Hotel and is very good. I especially like how they make the images and when refering to a city bringing all the most famous parts and bringing them together. Such as in the image below of London. See how many famous things you can spot. I also love the little funny captions such as the octopus. HE HE

100 GREATEST CARTOONS
From Mickey Mouse to Marge Simpson, Top Cat to Toy Story and Bugs Bunny to Belleville Rendez-Vous a programme recently on Channel 4 charted the 100 Greatest Cartoons of all time, as voted for by the public! Whether you grew up on a diet of Tom & Jerry and Porky Pig or modern classics like South Park, The Simpsons and King of the Hill, everyone has their favourite cartoon and characters.
They covered everything from Popeye to cult Japanese Anime in what will be a comprehensive history of over a century of animation, as well as a poll to find out the nation's favourite cartoon of all time. Funny, nostalgic, heart-warming and occasionally down right rude, the 100 Greatest Cartoons was the ultimate tribute to the 'thwock' sound effect, to running in the air but not going anywhere, to being a mild mannered janitor by day but kung fu super hero at night, and of course to saying 'D'oh' every time you mess up.
Below are the results of the Top 100 and I watched for quite a few hours to get this list! It was a good watch though :)

DreamWorks Writes Down Flushed
Flushed Away, the computer-animated feature hasn’t been performing as well as some of DreamWorks Animation’s previous releases, the studio has officially acknowledged that it its likely to take a write-down on the film based on domestic box office results for the third collaboration with Aardman Animations. The announcement was made as DreamWorks Animation filed a shelf registration statement with the Securities and Exchange Commission for the follow-on secondary offering $330 million of shares of Class A common stock.
DreamWorks SKG’s publicly traded animation unit invested approximately $142.9 into Flushed Away, which has earned a little more than $41 million in North America since opening on Nov. 3. The film has been released in several small foreign theatrical markets and is scheduled to bow in France on Nov. 29 and in the U.K. on Dec. 1 before rolling out in other foreign markets. The flick stands to do its best business in the U.K., where the popularity of Aardman and the film’s largely British voice cast should add up to boffo box office.
Foreign box office proved a saving grace for DreamWorks’ and Aardman’s Wallace & Gromit: Curse of the Were-Rabbit. Released last October, the clay-animated comedy grossed just north of $56 million in the U.S. but raked in more than $136 million overseas, bringing its worldwide take to $192.4 million.
Since DreamWorks Animation is still waiting to see how Flushed will perform overseas, the studio is currently unable to predict the ultimate amount of the third-quarter write-down. Other factors include eventual home video sales and revenues related to worldwide television distribution.
The Happy Feet - New Animated Film
The Happy Feet features Elijah Wood from the Lord of the Rings trilogy as the voice of Mumble, a young penguin born into a nation of singing Emperor penguins where each needs a heart song to attract a soul mate. Since Mumble is cursed with being the worst singer in the world, he learns to rely on his tap dancing skills to catch the eye of a special young lady. Directed by George Miller, whose credits include the Babe and Mad Max films, Happy Feet is an animated musical comedy that also stars the voices of Brittany Murphy (King of the Hill) Hugh Jackman (Flushed Away/Xmen), Nicole Kidman (His Dark Materials: The Golden Compass/Moulan Rouge), Robin Williams (Robots) and Hugo Weaving (The Matrix trilogy/Lord of the Rings), among others. The movie opens to a lot of positive reviews, most praising the film for its stunning visuals and soulful music.

Digit
The Digit London site is www.digitlondon.com
For example the Digital Aquarium. It was an interactive experience using 150 Motorola handsets suspended from the roof of a tank exhibition space outside the Institute of Contemporary Art.
On the outside of the tank was a number that consumers were invited to call in order to interact with the installation. The tank was programmed such that when the number was called it set off a chain reaction of the handsets calling each other, lighting up and ringing in a staggered formation, giving the effect of a swimming school of fish.
Another example is Motoglyph.
Digit were approached by Motorola to create an interactive experience that highlighted their commitment to music and youth culture.
By fusing cutting edge technology and simple tools they created a digital graffiti wall on which users could Âspray their own unique signature or drawing. Whilst creating a ÂsignatureMotoglyphlyph also simultaneously generated a soundscape. Both the soundtrack and the image could be sent to the users mobiles to be used as wallpaper and ring tone. The motoglyph won a lion at Cannes, was commissioned to be part of a major contemporary design exhibition at the Pompidou Centre in Paris and has toured the world from Japan to Argentina.
Golan Levin - messa di voce
It was really interesting seeing how the technology could register where they are and what there doing to reacted to it visually. I especically liked the one with all the balls. There is a website about it if your interested - www.tmema.org/messa/messa.html
Sprite Idea
If I made a background, which is the floor plan for an exhibition show such as the Motorcycle and Scooter Show at the NEC www.motorcycleshow.co.uk
Then as your Sprite walks up to a bike or stand a picture of the bike pops up, along with information about it. Like a virtual guide of the show, Big Companies such as Honda and Yamaha, I believe would pay for there products to be on the virtual tour!!!
Habbo Hotel (Sprite Work)
In the Habbo Hotel world you can actually buy furniture and credits to play games and do competitions so it also includes real money. Any way check it out and you will see what I mean.
The UK website is www.habbohotel.co.uk
John Lasseter
John Lasseter is one of my idols :D He is Vice President of Pixar and has made many animated films.
He is actually ranked No.1 in Premiere's 2004 annual Power 100 list with Pixar CEO Steve Jobs. They had ranked No.23 in 2003 and No.31 in 2002.
He went to the California Institute of the Arts in Valencia. While attending California Institute of the Arts, he produced two animated films, both winners of the Student Academy Award for Animation, Lady and the Lamp in 1979 and Nitemare in 1980.
He was a member of the Computer Division of Lucasfilm Ltd. (which was later sold and became Pixar), where he designed and animated the computer-generated Stained Glass Knight character in the Steven Spielberg-produced film Young Sherlock Holmes (1985). He's also a member of the Board of Governors of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences (Short Films and Feature Animation Branch).
In 2004, he was honored by the Art Directors Guild with its prestigious "Outstanding Contribution To Cinematic Imagery" award, and received an honorary degree from the American Film Institute.
He is also very involved with Hayao Miyazaki as he is a close personal friend of his. John Lasseter actually introduced the DVD release of Hayao Miyazaki's Tenkû, Castle in the Sky, which is actually one of his favorite films. He also organised the English version of some of his films including Spirited Away.

Life Quotes
Life is like an onion.
You peel off one layer at a time
and sometimes you weep.
~ Carl Sandburg ~
Too much sanity may be madness.
And maddest of all,
to see life as it is and not as it should be!
~ Miguel de Cervantes ~
Life is a series of collisions with the future.
~ Jose Ortega y Gasset ~
Foundation Studio
We did some learning about doing storyboards. Here's my notes.
*Sound effects
*Cutting
*Zoom
*Panning
*Pace
*Use arrows
work in 16-9 widescreen as its more cinematic. Download from Blackboard!!!
Also, use a soft pencil for shading and thick dark pencils or pens for other parts.
A good idea is to cut on the beats of the music.
mmm my notes must be in a different notebook so I will find that in my mess of a room and type them up. Sorry so this will be a short post... for now!!!
Process and Production 1
We looked at a few people work such as John Mader, Gollan Levin, Jaap Blank and Zachery Lieberman (sorry about spelling)
We also set up blogs and del.icio.us accounts.
Mine are obviously this one
http://dogactor87.blogspot.com
http://del.icio.us/dogactor87
on everything I use my username is always dogactor87... long story why that name but if you ever need to find anything of mine just put that into a search engine or something!!!
Oh Tag for people on our course is - mmvran1
We then looked at www.tiletoy.org
They used a chip called 'Basic stamp'
We should be doing one but one of 2 boards
Talio board - is £160 for an intro kit
Ardrueno board - is £20 each
We also looked at Tuomo Tammenpaa who is a media artist/creative director
and Daniel Blackburn who is a managing director.
Look up Digit
*Update blog by 2nd Nov
*No P&P on Mon 30th Oct
*Have a look at Rustboy
We discussed the Bradford Animation Festival. SI amam really thinking of going especially to see certain things.
Workshop
We started by doing mind maps, which is one of my biggest hates in design! I did enjoy the group mind map though as you got some funny answers :D We had the theme Autobiography given to use so when I next see a scanner I will up load my mind map for you all to see how much I wrecked my mind thinking of ideas to go in it!!!
NOTE 2 SELF!!!
Remember to add drawings, colour and NO arrows!!!
We watched 'How art made the world' which is a BBC documentary that was very interesting even if I knew a lot of it any way. I found the story of Gilgemesh (ignore spelling) story quite interesting and especially like the idea of Trajens Column (again sorry cant spell) its a really good idea and I will have to go see it when I go to Italy this Christmas!!!
I made some points of what most good stories include - a hero, a good plot, sound and emotion!!!
Next up is scanning!!! It was basically learning how to scan and edit our storyboards but next bit is going to be my notes sorry!!!
Scanning - File, Import, Scanner name. Do in Office mode and scan at 800dpi
Save my storyboards as PNG and if there's no colour turn into greyscale.
Also, always make master files, which are high quality and DON'T mess with them... they are a back up!!!
There were a few problems with Illustrator but I got the idea, I don't particularly like Freehand so I think I will stick. Sorry my notes again.
File, Place
Find image on PC
Shift key to keep to scale.
Window, transform - set box to 160mm x 90mm
New
Size - A4
Units - mm
RGB Colour
Place storyboard box over the image. High light both!!!
Object - Clipping mask - make
LOCK LAYERS
Option + Alt
Pick object, press O+A and makes copies
If you press shift after goes up/across exactly
Control + Y = to see unseable objects
Well unless I have other notes that's what I have so far. Enjoy :)

Family Guy's Brian Goes Blogging
FAMILY GUY'S BRIAN GOES BLOGGING
Family Guy fans can now go online to check out some nuggets of wisdom from the Griffin’s martini-sipping family dog, Brian. The character is featured as a guest blogger on familyguy.com and olivereader.com, posting his first entry today, Oct. 16. In addition to dishing dirt on his dysfunctional family, the talking canine is promoting his upcoming book, Family Guy: Brian Griffin's Guide to Booze, Broads and the Lost Art of Being a Man.
Brian will blog for five days, sharing details of being violated by a Borders Books security guard, offering a scintillating review of Danielle Steel's latest novel and listing all the things he plans to do as a published author, including bedding more women, donning a cardigan sweater and a pipe, starting to call wine "vino" and tricking out his Prius to look like Kit from Knight Rider. among many others.

Storyboarding Tips
Arrows - Suppose the camera is tracking in, following a bad guy's footsteps. Draw in an arrow pointing into shot to show the camera's movement. Now the hero's head is pulled back by one of the bad guy's goons. Use an arrow to show the movement of the head being turned. What about a zoom in? From each corner draw in arrows pointing to the centre, draw in a new smaller frame to show the end of the zoom. Generally I try and use thick white arrows to show camera moves and thin black arrows to show objects moving.
The Floating Frame - What if you want to show the camera panning to show a cityscape, or following a character as they walk through an airport? There's two options here: 1) Illustrate one shot using more than one storyboard frame showing the key stages of the shot's movement across a number of frames or 2) Draw out the entire scene (e.g.. the horizon of a city) and place a frame on it with an arrow indicating the direction of movement.
Transitions - The storyboard can also include transitions in your film. Write these in the gaps between the frames e.g.. DISSOLVE TO :
